Mobile social networking startup MocoSpace, begun by Boston-based JNJ Mobile Inc., reports it has brought in $3 million in its first round of funding. The round was led by Cambridge-based General Catalyst, and included New York's Pilot Group and former eBay executive Michael Dearing.
The funding will be used to expand the company's sales and marketing reach, as well as general corporate purposes, said co-founder and CEO Justin Siegel.

MocoSpace was founded by Siegel and CTO Jamie Hall, both former executives for New York-based mobile game developer SkyZone Entertainment Inc., an independent company spun out of Korean mobile carrier SK Group in 2003.
MocoSpace aims to combine social networking, the mobile Internet and mobile advertising in one, off-deck space. The website offers the functionality seen on Internet-based social networking websites, such as IM, picture sharing and profile creation, in the mobile environment, according to Siegel.
While the company would not reveal exact user numbers, officials said the company's user base is "approaching its one millionth user," and has been up and running for about a year.
